Big and Small of It

Just thoughts I'd follow up a bit on the new arrivals. Hobo Joe came into our lives back in February during the blizzards, but we didn't actually manage to capture him until May. He proved to be a very nice cat and obviously had once had a home and owner.

Hobo is the biggest cat we ever "adopted". He is huge actually. Maybe he is the "Delaware Cougar". He appears to have some Snowshoe Cat in him. He has the white booted paws and a black mask about his eyes. My daughter, who is a VetTech with a lot of experience with cats says by the shape of his head he is probably descended from some Siamese. Well, then, Snowshoe cats were bred from Siamese originally by a lady in Philadelphia. He is also a chatty cat and siamese are notoriously talkative.

I haven't been able to weigh Hobo, but he is a ton to lift and it isn't fat. I did measure him as standing 17 inches at the shoulders. He has very long legs.

Our newest rescue is Kerouac, whom my son and people where he works managed to corral in their parking lot after hearing it meow for two days. It is very small. Both my daughters (and both are VetTechs) have established he is a male and is about a month old now, making him around three weeks old when my son picked him up.

Both these cats quickly adapted to their new home and to people. Hobo Joe is a bit jealous of Kerouac, however.  They are both playful.  Here are pictures taken this morning:

Thanks for the update Lar. I love reading about your rescues. Kerouac appears to be very small. Be careful (I probably don't have to tell you this) about letting big Hobo play with him. I rescued a cat some years ago for my Mother from the Morris Animal Refuge in Philadelphia. Her black cat named Cinderella (who she rescued from the West Chester ASPCA) "played" with it and Morris died. Apparently Cinderella was jealous and didn't want any competition. She was too much for Morris. And here we thought she was playing rough.

Keep us up to date on their progress. Hobo could be your Guard Cat.
